yatzr's Gridiron Dynasty Recruiting Tool Install Instructions Back

INSTRUCTIONS

NOTE! THESE INSTRUCTIONS ARE SLIGHTLY OUT OF DATE. YOU NO LONGER NEED THE permTeams.dat AND towns.dat FILES. YOU MUST ALSO ENTER YOUR USERNAME AND PASSWORD UNDER OPTIONS -> CONNECTIVITY.

Here some detailed instructions to get you up and going with the recruit tool. They were written for windows, but I think Mac and Linux users should be able to follow.

The first thing you should do is create a new folder on your desktop. All of the recruit tool files will go into this folder.

Now go download the recruit tool files from this page. I recommend right-clicking them and selecting "Save-As" so that you can tell it where to save them to. Tell it to save them in the new folder you just created.

After downloading the files, this is what your new folder should look like.

Now we need to extract the two zip files.

Make sure to tell it to extract them into the new folder you created.

Now your new folder should look like this.

Go ahead and delete the zip files since you don't need them anymore.

Finally, your folder should look like this

Now we're going to run the .jar file. You need a java runtime environment to run it. You probably already have one, but if not, get the latest JRE here.Once you have a java runtime environment, you should be able to just double click the .jar file. If that doesn't work, right click and do "open with" and choose java. This is what the program should look like the first time you open it.

Before we can grab our recruits, we need to make a new season. Go to File->New Season.

On the new season form, enter your team id and the season number for the recruits. The season number is only used to name the season file that will get created in a minute. It helps to organize things when you have multiple season files. If you don't know your team id, go here to find it.

After you hit save, the title at the top of the program should've updated to reflect your team and the season number. If you have multiple teams that recruit at the same time, it's useful to look at the title to figure out which team you're currently working on.

Now lets actually grab some recruits. Go to Data->Download/Update Recruits

This is the recruit downloader/updater. You need to enter your Gridiron Dynasty username and password so that the program can log into the site as you and grab all of the recruits. There are a few options here that I'll explain:

When you tell it to "Update Recruits", the progress bar will give you an indication of progress. Note that for each checkbox that you checked, the progress bar will go from 0-100% twice as many times. As long as the progress keeps changing, then it's working. Once it's completely done, it will say "Complete".

Now close the recruit downloader/uploader and hit Refresh. You should see the full list of recruits pop up. Note that any recruits with red names are outside of your vision.
